On 20 September 2023, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology conducted the inaugural round of discussions concerning the implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPR).
The public consultation was organised by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (“Meity”) at New Delhi on 5 January 2018 in relation to the white paper (“WP”) on data protection framework for India.
In summer 2018, a new Indian Personal Data Protection Bill was released by a Committee of Experts formed under the Chairmanship of Justice B.N. Srikrishna (the “Bill”), accompanied by a report titled “A Free and Fair Digital Economy: Protecting Privacy, Empowering Indians.”

The Government of India's Aadhar Card Scheme (a digital recognition initiative) stirred up a hornets' nest when allegations regrading violence of privacy was raised against the said scheme.
