Rahul Dhanuka is a Partner in the Indirect Tax Practice Group in the Kolkata office. He specialises in various indirect tax laws such as GST, State Excise Duty Customs and other international trade and regulatory laws.
Rahul has also advised on SEZ laws, Foreign Trade Policy, Preferential trade Agreements and issues under legacy indirect taxes such as service tax, VAT and excise. He has extensive experience in advising clients on tax structuring options, input credit optimisation, business transfer arrangements, tax risk mitigation strategies, amongst others. Rahul has represented clients before various forums starting from adjudicating authorities to High Court.

Advised IVL Dhunseri Petrochem Industries Private Limited & Emami Agrotech Limited in securing and/or optimisation of refund claims under the GST laws.
Advised leading real estate players on tax structuring options available under the various joint development agreements.
Advised Emami Limited in reviewing their operations from an indirect tax standpoint.
Successfully argued writ petitions before the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court pertaining to imposition of GST on ocean freight under the GST law
Advised MCPI Private Limited in handling their entire legacy indirect tax litigation and getting a closure on most of the matters inter alia including successfully defending a matter before Appellate Tribunal in connection with excise duty demand of Rs. 63 crores on account of denial of exemption notification under the Central Excise law.
Successfully argued a matter before the Hon’ble Calcutta High Court in connection with denial of benefit of incentive scheme formulated under the State Incentive Policy.
Advised a leading Indian Bank in proceedings before the Enforcement Directorate under FEMA laws.
Advised Vikram Solar Limited on various aspects of SEZ laws.
Advised Cosmos Beverages Private Limited, a third party manufacturing unit of United Spirits Limited in arguing a matter before the West Bengal Taxation Tribunal in connection with imposition of wastage fee on transit wastage under West Bengal Excise Act.
