Labour And Employment Laws Of India

Submitted by kcoadmin on Wed, 07/12/2023 - 15:12

The Constitution empowers both the Central Government and the respective State Governments to legislate on matters concerning employment and unemployment, trade unions, industrial and labour disputes and employee welfare. Contemporaneous legislation on employment matters has led to a federal system of law where the applicability of legislation varies from State to State. There are over 50 (fifty) national laws and many more State-level laws. Traditionally, Indian Governments at both the Central and State level have sought to ensure a high degree of protection for workers through legislation.
